Okay I have a CDI ordered & on the way.. Question is it looks like I'll have to pull the flyweel to connect the white wire running up to I assume the Trigger.. If this is correct, is there a secret in holding the flywheel so I can lossen the nut in order to pull the flyweel?? does a puller pull that flyweel off pretty easy??

don't know what you are working on...is it an outboard motor? If so, what brand and horsepower?
If it's a small hp motor you can usually just pry it off carefully with a big screwdriver...if a larger hp motor usually takes a puller and maybe a hammer...hard to tell without knowing what you are working on...just a Thought

Re: Installing new CDI

I just went back and found what you are working on...'87 Force...not real familior with the particulars on this motor but I think you use a harmonic balancer puller and 3 1/4" bolts. After you remove the flywheel nut and attatch the puller fairly tight...rap on the end of the puller with a hammer and flywheel should pop off.
If you added this to your original thread...prolly would get more help and less confusion...just a Thought

yea sorry it is a 87 85 HP.. I would gues the flyweal shouldn't be to hard with the puller, my bigger problem is how do you hold the flyweal while breaking the nut on top it on there prety tight.. Thanks

i use an air impact wrench...but you could maybe wedge a screwdriver between starter and gear teeth. Careful not to break anything and be sure to torque corectly when going back...just a Thought

Re: Installing new CDI

make shure the bolts are grade 8 on the harmonic ballancer puller, if all goes right , just hit the end with the hammer as stated before, if its stuck then use an impact wrench, flywheel should stay on crankshaft end , you will heat it break loose....
