Installing new exhaust manifolds, risers and elbows (mercruiser brand) the parts come with paint on area where they mate together -I know to run a file across the area to make sure its plain......but do leave the paint on? (the mating area)

Thanks

The paint does not chip off -it sands down smooth....but still there - I can take a razor and take it all off to bare metal -if that's the correct method?

Bondo........after trying to remove the paint (or I though it was paint) its not coming off -even with lacquer thinner -I think that surface is ceramic coated? only on the rissers and manifold ...the elbows it comes right off

The paint is supposed to be there because it it uses as a anti corrosion measure The gasket will seal just as good on painted surfaces as well as non painted surfaces

Thank you! I figured there is no way Merc would leave the paint there to be taken off -do know how much work that would be for all those parts!!
There;s no way a mechanic in the shop would do it!!
