I've read & watched u-tube videos & they all say tap the hubs in with rubber mallet or hammer. When I drop mine in, it just slides in & needs no tapping. when all the way in I can feel a slight bit of looseness, not loose & floppy by no means, but can feel it isn't a tight fit. Tried 2 different hubs with exact same results. Is this "not snugness" OK? I see nothing that looks messed up or anything... Thanks.

My RBX102 and Flow Torque II hubs fit snug in both my Mercury 21P and Quicksilver 19P Mercruiser props.
I'd start with checking the prop part number.

I had a new hub for a mercury prop in a box, it was loose. Then took a hub out of a Quicksilver Lazer II & it fit the same loose. Are you saying there are different sizes of hubs for Mercury props? & there may be one that fits tight?

What I was trying to say was, the prop that you are asking about, is it the correct prop for those hubs? Check the prop's part number.

I got the #'s off both props, Quicksilver & Quicksilver Lazer II. I Punched in & ready to select by # and found the hubs seem to be designated for what eng. (lower unit) you have rather than the prop you have. Now even way more confused. I have a 1988 Mercury XR2 V6, 2 stroke & am not finding that eng. listed listed in the several charts I've looked at. Chart shows late model 150HP 4 strokes, no 150 2 strokes. The prop I'm trying to install is a Quicksilver 48 11074 A40 23P...Any help appreciated...Thanks.

Having trouble finding info. But thinking I've found stuff I never would have thought. It seems all, or most all, modular (Interchangeable) hub kits fit most all brand "props". A mercury hub kit that fits my 1988 Merc XR2 150 W/ Quicksilver Lazer II, I can take the hub kit out & put it in a Johnson , Yammy, or Suzuki prop & bolts right on to the prop shaft on my Mercury XR2.. Also seems sometimes the sleeve needs a little tapping to install, sometimes harder tapping to install, & sometimes the just sort'f falls in... Like I said, hard to find definite info. but from what I've found this is correct...Any prop with a "pressed in hub" is a totally different animal. Please straighten me out if you find different info. than I've found,

I've been trying to find info on that 48-11074a40.

The nut, tab washer and front washer are listed. Just not the hub.

Composite Mercury hub kit for 1" propshaft that includes forward bushing 856163Q1

I don't know if that bushing will help. I can't find much info on the prop you have. Is the depth where the hub kit is placed different between the props you fit it to?

You P/N is superceeded to...

"Hub System - 835257K6 Flo-Torq II Hub Kit included"

No, length is correct, only thing is the sleeve seem like it should be snug in the prop, but it isn't. I haven't installed it with the hub in it & wondering if when tightened the sleeve may kind'f swell, like in an expansion plug. Also can't believe everything you read on computers, I read one place that prop #'s ending with A40 or A41 were pressed in bushings, not the interchangeable ones...That ain't right, my Lazer II is A41 & Quicksilver is A40 & both have the modular (interchangeable hubs.

My RBX-102 hub was a tighter fit than the FT2

I will look at my two props tomorrow.

Yes it certainly is.

Do you have a picture of your Laser prop where the "hub" is installed"

Yours being an A40 you might need a press in rubber hub.

Other than trying the RBX-102 I'm running out of ideas...

I went out today and pulled both hubs from both props. The large ends appear to be the same size when held end to end. When dropped into the same prop the FT2 sits visibly lower in the bore than the RBX. The difference is probably 1/4" ~3/8". The friction of the rubber would account for some of it but remember that I said the RBX I had to drive into the prop's bore.

You can try the RBX and see if it will take up the slack or take it to a prop shop and see what they think.

That looks like a pressed in hub, in 4th pic. or the thrust washer they put on there is wrong. my 48-11074 A40 23P certainly isn't a pressed in.????

A lot I "don't" know about props & hubs. Pictures of both those props shoe the thrust washed "down in" the hub of the prop. All the videos I've seen & the props I have, the thrust washer is flanged, the small side goes down in the hub & the larger side rests on the outer edge (rim) of the hub...I dunn'no.

I've seen plenty of the early style prop with that small washer online. I still believe that is how yours came as well.

You can always take it to a prop shop.
