I have owned many boats before, but for some reason I have a stupid question to ask: I bought a power tilt/trim system for my 91 Force 70hp. It is a used factory OEM system. My question is, do I have to completely remove the outboard to install the T&T system? Neither myself nor the guy that will be helping me have ever done this kind of work before. What should we expect when doing this, and do I have to remove the outboard? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I really have no idea. Please e-mail responses to Radioguyj@aol.com. Thanks, your help is appreciated.
Jason
RadioguyJ@aol.com

the only stupid questions are the ones you dont ask. the mechanics of this job are a cake walk. perferably the unit you bought is in one piece, if so you really only two long studs to deal with. one for the pivot at the bottom of motor brackett and one through the shock and tilt cylinder. if not in one piece than you have a small jigsaw puzzle with the lines. i will assume that you are replacing a bad unit at this time and not a new install. you do not have to remove the motor. tilt all the way up and support with transom saver and swap them out shouldnt take more than an hour or so. good luck

This is actually a new install. The system I bought is used, it is a one piece unit, one cylinder. My boat has never had a trim system on it, will I have to remove the outboard now? Please e-mail me at RadioguyJ@aol.com. Thanks!
Jason

tried e-mail keep getting a message that you dont exist, copied and pasted from forum.

Jason

ok, new install, the mechanics are still pretty simple. no you dont have to remove outboard. did you get the electronics to go with it, switches, relays. does your control have a tilt switch. is the tilt motor 2 or 3 wire. you will need a service manual. go to http://www.dougrussell.com/ you will be able to print diagrams illistrating the trim componets. compare the tilt brackets on you outboard to the diagrams before you start your installation. i havent looked at dougs website for wiring diagrams. if you have any electronic experience you can wire up with aftermarket relays, you will have to find the appropriate amp rating.

Shawn

My e-mail is: RADIOGUYJ@AOL.COM

You can copy and paste that. AOL Screen name: RadioguyJ

I have the switch (for dash mounting) and the relays too. Everything is basically there as far as I know. I believe it is a 2 wire setup, but there may be a third. I don't have it in front of me right now. My shift/throttle control does not have the switch built-in. I was just going to install the provided switch on the dash. Is this as easy as mounting the pump unit, attaching the cylinder to the outboard, running the wires and powering it up to the battery? You can e-mail me back or I will check this post again later.
Jason RadioguyJ@aol.com
