installing roof rack on Astro Van.

i got a great deal $69.00 on an new original equipment roof rack for my 87 Astro. going to install this week.. any one done this? the head liner is loose so that is not a problem. i think i will have some backing plates made, to bolt it on. use 3m4200 to seal. there have just been times when i miss having a pick up, for long stuff. beside it has 3 row seats.

I looked at my Astro van roof rack it looks like long type of sheet metal screws could not feel any type of nut through the headliner, FYI placement is a couple of inches (forward) where your door opens hope that helps. Jim

I do believe the dealerships use rivnuts when they install one. Just be sure to apply paint to every newly drilled hole or the 5200.
