I'm planning on wiring up a sound system that I tore out of a car but I have some doubts.

How am I suppose to protect everything from water damage without interfering with the sound quality?

Any advice at all?

Thanks

Re: Installing sound system

What components are you transferring? Head unit, amps, speakers?

Where are you installing it? Inside the cabin, outside, exposure to elements?

The good news it'll work as it's all 12V and interchangeable (same 4 ohm impedence)

I believe the real difference between car audio and marine grade audio is that the internal components are shielded from moisture better in marine grade equipment. Also, for your deck if exposed to the elements should be installed in the dash box or covered with a waterproof plate to prevent major water damage.

Also, the speaker cone themselves tend to be paper based and won't stand up to the moisture as well as marine grade speakers and will quickly deteriorate.

I've seen it work well inside the cabin, but I don't know if you'd have similar success outside in the direct elements.

Lastly, if your adding amplifiers, etc, watch the draw on your battery. If you don't have a large enough power source and it's not recharged via generator or alternator (don't know the specs on your boat) you'll quickly drain your system.

Any kind of an open fishing boat, not a good idea to use automotive type stereo equipment. For all of the reasons stated by Nelson.
Anything mounted inside a cabin will still have an exposure to moisture, If it's junk or cheap and you want to waste some time, then go ahead. Don't expect it to last.

I've seen more than one car radio installed in a boat and lasted for a very long time. Obviously you will need to protect from the weather. They make watertight boxes for this. Obviously you don't want to use paper speakers either. Outdoor speakers are cheap enough as long as you don't plan on competing.
