The alternator makes AC (alternating current), which could be used for running lights (only). For charging, it need to be rectified to DC, using a rectifier kit. The 20C comes standard with an alternator as part of the exciter/magneto coil assembly under the flywheel. Electric start models include the rectifier as standard. To set up a non-electric-start model for charging, you need 3BJ761600M RECTIFIER KIT (F15C/F20C) $111.67, available from any dealer, including me.
