Intake manifold rust

89 5.7L Cobra

I took the carb off to clean and drain old fuel out of. I noticed a good amount of rust inside the intake manifold. What should I do about it?

Was it flaking off or just a light surface rust?

Slightly flaky, not too bad... but can definitely see it getting into combustion chamber.

Any way to clean it out without taking manifold off?

Since no one here knows what it looks like that's a tough call. If its just from moisture leaking down the carb throat, I would guess using a vaccum cleaner to clean up as much as you can would be a good start. If its becuase the engine was submerged in salt water at some time, more drastic measure may need to be taken including replacing it.

Never seen salt water or been submerged. I'll try a vacuum and brush
