i have a gm 350 motor, "mercruiser" i had it all rebuilt and was wondering if any gm intake manifold can be used on the new motor? or if there is a special "marine" intake that is supposed to be used, also looking to gain a little more speed/horsepower, can i use something like a hi rise intake on this motor? or if anyone can suggest an intake mannifold it would be appreciated

Re: intake question

Search the forums for words like horsepower, turbo, supercharge, and you'll learn quite a bit about what it takes to add speed on water. Probably more work than you're thinking.

Re: intake question

We need to know vintage of the heads. Pre-87 have bolts by the EGR passage at the same angle as rest. Post-87 have canted bolts by EGR. Vortec heads have 8 bolts vs 12.

Marine means cast-iron or special liner in water passages of an alum intake. If sweet water or closed cooled, alum is fine.

A high-rise dual plane intake can work on most boats, like Edelbrock RPM. If more a cruiser, a Edelbrock Performer (mid-rise) may be a better match. Stay away from any single plane intake, unless this is an all-out go fast SBC.

If it is a non-vortec, it is hard to beat the GM bow-tie cast-iron high-rise intake. Just have to get the one that matches your heads vintage.
