Was out on the lake the other day wing shooting, tried to start the motor but it was lugging and low on power. Went through the fuel system completely and strained the gas in the tanks, and everything looked ok. Turns out one of the cam sprockets on top were loose and the dowel had ovaled. Managed to make the hole bigger and fit a bigger dowel with the tools we had but in getting the timing belt back on, the intake was retarded by one cog. Had already spent 3 hours at that point on the motor and it was getting dark so decided to head home. Result was a noticeable increase in (low end) power, revving higher and faster (gps). 3 hour trip home and checked the pistons and such for damage from detonation and found none. Since no deto was present am I in the clear?

cam timing wont cause detonation.
however that motor is an interference motor and if cam timing is to far off pistons whack the valves.
if it did not whack I guess your good.
