Are props made for a specific engine or will say a prop for a Merc fit on a Johnson ? I don't know that much about props and was wondering this ? Thanks for any help.

Ayuh,... Yes, 'n No... Yer question is too general,...

Basically, yes props are motor specific... but there's occasionally some that swap, 'tween motors...

Basically props are made for specific motors. However Some brands share props Some Mariner,Mercs and Yamaha share.
For many years Johnson and Evinrude were the same motor,In later years Some Johnsons were Suzuki motors.
Some late Force motors share legs and props with Merc. Nissan is made by Tohatsu. I think Tohastsu make small motors for Evinrude.
I'm sure there may be others that I missed. One way to check compatibility is to look up your prop here at boats and
see if the numbers match other brands.

later day props have inter-changable hubs, so you actually buy the prop and the hub as separate items. This gives the flexibility of swapping between engine makes, etc.

You should check out the specific propeller(s) that you have in mind. Older props, with the pressed in hubs are generally intented for a particular drive shaft size & spline count and are less inter-changable.
