interchange of remote shifter/throttle cables

[h=2]I am having to replace my 1990 25 hp Mercury motor with a newer one. (lower unit is trashed on the old one) My question is will the steering and shifter cables off my 1990 merc.25 hp fit on a 2004 25hp mercury directly or will I need an adapter kit? Both are set for remote control[/h]
