I have 4 V-4 Johnnyrudes I am working with. I have 3 85-86 90"s and 115's. Each has a good stator that all look the same. Each has a watercooled regulator. Some have part numbers and some do not. I am pretty sure none have a 35A system. I also have a 1990 90HP MLESB that I have converted to tilt/trim and would like to bump up the charging system. My guess is that the little round air cooled rectifier (6A) is matched to the ML charging system stator. Are the 10A and 15A stators and regulators interchangeable with each other or do the units have to be interchanged as a set. I know how to check resistance on the stators to determine amp rating, but my book does not show this for the regulators. Thank you

Re: Interchange of V-4 regulators

A difficult question. You may want to make up a grid/chart of what you have on each engine, from the original factory parts diagrams from this website: epc.brp.com. The basic engines had the 6 amp stators. The larger stators were put on the engines with power trim. I don't think any of these V4's had stators above the 9 amp size. I believe when you buy replacement parts (including the combination rectifier/regulator) from the factory, some interchangeability takes place in superceded part numbers. Once you know where you are, why not call the Bombardier customer service hotline and get the right information. In Waukegan, Ill, 847-689-7090

Thank you Admiral. May just have to do as you said. This situation may be just like the carb kit part numbers. The BRP kit numbers change every few years and yet Iboats lists the same kit for all v-4 cross flows from 1968-2002. Finding accurate cross reference charts is difficult. I'll give'er a shot and see what they say. Thanks again.
