I have a mercruiser 888 mid seventies outdrive and 302 motor and I wanna find a boat that I can use it on. I need to know what other outdrives are interchangeable with the mercruiser 888's hole in the transom. I have heard that the OMC Cobra is, but is it the 4 and 8 cyl. drives both or just the 8 cyl.? Also is the mercuiser 4 cyl outdrives hole the same as the 888? Thanks for any info . :p

that's not true, i have a 76 formula that had the merc 233. I replaced the transom last year. I had initially bought a used transom intermediate off ebay but it wasn't wide enough for the transom cutout. Find out afterwards that merc had 2 different sizes back then, or switched to a different size/shape sometime back then.<br />I guess the inside brackets of mine and the 888 are the same since the 302 and 351 would be the same size externally, I think. But the transom holes can be different, I found out the hard way.

Some 233 and all 215's are a weird hole. The 888 use the same hole as the rest of the old stuff.

You've got a 302/888 looking for a boat. I've got a Wellcraft Nova 210 (1976)where I just pulled out a 302/888 and where a 2005 Volvo Penta (4.3GXi/SX) transom plate snugged right up into the transom hole. Soooo, going the other way, any VP driven boat from 1994 to present will take a 302/888 in the hole. Did have to do some work on the engine mount stringers.
