I am considering purchasing a steering console for my 1670 Voyager jon boat that came out of a similar boat. The question I have is the steering. The boat it came out of had a Mariner and I am running a Johnson. Will the steering be compatible or am I better off to look for something for a Johnson. The console, steering wheel, and cable are only going to cost me $100 and that would cost me $500 from the dealer new. What to do. Is there just some parts that might have to be changed at the motor end of the cables??

Forgive my ignorance. I know nothing about steering systems, so help me out here guys. Thanks so much in advance.

Re: Interchangeable Steering?????

the steering wheel, helm, and cable are interchangeable, you just need the steering link from cable to motor. as far as motor controls, you have to have Johnson/Evinrude.

Re: Interchangeable Steering?????

Any suggestions on where to find the "cable to motor parts that I will need?? I already have the controls, so that's the good part. Thanks again.
