As someone pointed out to me a long time ago, if your hobby mostly involves buying stuff, it's the wrong hobby for you.
I just read the above quote in a thread in the photography section of a social news web site (reddit.com Don't go there unless you don't ever want to get up from your computer
Anyone have any good stories? I know my grandfather outfitted a whole wood shop and never really made much of anything. My brother-in-law is a bit of a serial hobbyist and has done this with numerous fleeting interests of his. My wife has done it a little bit also with craft projects although they are usually pretty small so no harm is done.
I think I am a little bit guilty of it with my model train hobby. I would really like to have a fully scenicked layout but the tedious work required to get there is daunting. My layout is quite functional for running trains so I've been having difficulty getting the motivation up to do the scenery work. Going to train shows with my buddies and buying things is much more fun
There are definitely some armchair boaters on here, I know that for sure. I know I'm safe with boating because it is definitely the boating activity I'm after and the restoration work is just the means to an end.
