No question here, just wanted to share an interesting experience. '79 rude 70, sometimes would die on acceleration, but could be coaxed up to WOT, as if the throttle cam wasn't hitting the mark, but I checked that and double checked it. Thought I might have a carb issue, but it was a intermittent problem. Yesterday it ran great except I thought I noticed at one point it was idling just a bit higher than normal (no tach). Then I had one instance where I had to crank it for maybe 10-15 seconds before it started (which never happened before). Finally, when I was ready to head back to the launch, it died whenever I moved past idle speed & wouldn't go beyond. Although I could rev her up with the hi-idle lever. I figured it was a carb or two needed cleaning.

So I ordered my kits, took the carbs apart, then noticed this broken plastic part in the engine compartment

Figured it out yet?

Its part of the socket joint for the spark advance link - close inspection instead of jumping to conclusions woulda saved me some trouble.
