Interior Has Me Perplexed

Hey Guys,
I bought my boat in June of 2016 so I haven't even had her a year. I've got this gold section on the back seat and I can't for the life of me figure out how it got there. I was looking at pics of the boat I saved the marina used to list it, and low and behold its not there. The pics I posted shows what I am referring to. Even the M on the Monterey emblems has now what appears to be a rusty stain on them. Could it be a cleaner I have used? Wouldn't that have done the same thing to all the seats? The tops of the two front seats also have this going on too but its not as apparent. I wish I could tell you when this happened or how long after I purchased the boat but I cannot pinpoint and exact time.

I keep my boat under a covered boat lift and it has snap in covers that would have protected these areas of the seats fro any sort of harmful UV rays here in the FL sun. So what gives, anyone have any ideas?

Going to need more pics, different angles, different lighting. Not saying there isn't something there, but in that 2nd pic the "gold" looks to me like it could be a reflection, or something on your camera lens.

I don't have any at the moment but its definitely not a reflection. I've tried scrubbing it off to no avail.

If it is where the cover touches the upholstery then just let it sit out in the sun, it will likely go away.

I believe that is where the cover touches the upholstery. Both in the back and on the top of the seats up front. Good call Old Jeep! It's a black cover so you think somehow the fibers from the cover are reacting with the vinyl? Interesting.....

MH - it is the factory Monterey snap on cover. That goes over the windshield.

its so,e what common for that to happen where a cover touches a seat, you need to put in some spacers to hold it up, or a vent and pole

Thanks for the replies. I am going to let her sit in the sun for a few days and then make sure to you my pole to prop it up when its not in use.

That's so crazy. I would have never thought in a million years it was the cover. That's why i love this place!! :joyous:

I'm having a 'problem' with this...

I've seen perfectly good vinyl do this. Some friends have a Bennington, and at about year 3, the tops of all the seats started turning a goldish-brown. Most of the color change occured where the snap on cover was in close proximity to the seats. It was assumed that the heat of the sun and the cover caused the change. However, in some places the cover couldn't have been a cause. In other places, where the cover should've changed the vinyl, it didn't..

Ok, so my problem?

Everywhere this happened on the Benny, the change was a blotchy nightmare mess.

But on this boat---

The gold color looks like factory vinyl. Nary a blotch, the color, at least in the photo, is very even and consistent. Which is not consistent with a UV/cover issue...

It's hard to see in that picture but it actually bled onto the other side of the black piping. it is more blotchy on that side as that is where the cover starts to rise off the back of the seats.

I found the prop up poles(not sure of correct name) that came with my boat so I put those guys in to get the cover off the tops of the seats. It was rainy and crappy here all weekend so I didn't have a chance to set her out in the sun for a few days. Try again next weekend.

What are the seat frames made of? could be metal frames with them starting to rust and the rust is working its way through the vinyl.
