Interior wood?

I am redoing the interior of my 25-year-old 18.5-foot Bayliner Capri. So what wood should I use?

I have done some research and many say epoxy coated plywood. Problem there is when I run a bunch of staples in; I give water many tiny holes to enter. Also epoxy coating plywood is a fair amount of work. The side panels appear to be painted plywood and lasted 25 years and are not that bad, and could possibly be reused. The seat bottoms look to be the same untreated plywood and are rotted.

I understand there is plastic wood, however it is a bit out of my price range.

I am leaning towards using green treated plywood, as it would not loose its rot resistance when staples were put into it, and it would be better than untreated.

Well there you go, for side panels and such, painted or epoxied exterior grade plywood can do the job for a good 25 years, even stapled. I'd expect the same material for seat bottoms to outlast any vinyl; however, perhaps for just the seat bottoms you could use King Starboard or some such material.

BTW, epoxy-coating plywood panels is no more work (though it is more $) than brush-painting them.

I'd not use any pressure treated plywood for this application, because the chemicals can react with the staples (depending on their material) and/or vinyl or vinyl dyes.

The problem, as you have said, is the staples.

Use epoxy coated exterior grade plywood, and after you staple the vinyl cover on, seal the staple heads with tape or a small amount of 3m marine sealant, or even a bit more epoxy brushed on with a small brush.

Even with the staples not sealed it will last a long time. Sealing the staples will make it last longer.

For me, after 20 years I'd want to do a new interior anyway, just to have something different :)
