Well I finished the first coat of brightsides on my 29 foot cruisers today, well the boat started out 29 foot long and felt more like an aircraft carrier at the end of the day.

A few questions, I know I am supposed to sand between coats of brightsides and I have to since I have some mistakes I have to get out from starting and stopping. It was in the mid 90's here while painting and I used the 333 brushing liquid added to the paint. On the can it says not to exceed 10% by volume and I followed that to the letter. As a matter of fact I had to go all the way to 10% since the paint was getting very sticky very fast.

I accidentally got my measurements screwed up and added more of the 333 to the paint, I decided to go ahead and try it on a place on the bottom and it actually worked better, what are the drawbacks to going with greater than the manufacturers recommended ratio.

Also open for any other tips you folks might have before putting on the second coat.

thanks

That 10% warning is stritchely for the VOC laws.
It will not hurt anything to exceed it.

I can well imagine that!

Can't ya do it earlier or later in the day? Sometimes dilution is not good for the cured product. It might not hurt to give Interlux a call to be sure.

That was starting this morning and had to increase the ration beyond 10% as the temp rose. I will probably give them a call tomorrow.

1. 333 will make the paint flow and level better, but because you have thinned it down it will also leave a orange peel finish. Secondly your are reducing the pigment in the paint making for more layer's to get a good even soild color....As to sanding do it with'n 24 hour's the surface of the paint is very soft and using 220 grit and a very light scuffing...just enough to dull the finish....doing it in this manner will shorten the time you are having to put in.

Actually if i were you i would not use any kind or reducer, just paint and dry........... sand......... paint and dry and sand ..

It should take at least 4 layer's of painting before you can get to a final finish coat, on the final finish coat's ad your 333 to maybe 5% for the leveling qualities nd no peel left over..

So in the end always remeber your building to a final fisnish, never apply it to thick or you will get solvent entrapment (bubbles after it dry's) i for one would not get to fussy with debries or runs until you have a solid color then get detailed oriented sand it down as smooth as a baby's A@@ ....Use the 333 to thin her out be careful and you will have great finish.

If you have painting skills you can kick the brush and just roll and roll... that is roll out the paint and come back a roll out the stipple works like a charm..

Heres a link..no hollywood production but it works.

Little hint High Quality you can see the stippling form and be flattened every thing is in real time

watch in standard quality watch in high quality
