intermitent no spark 98 115 johnson

98 115 johnson 60 degree has about 100 hours. Engine started fine, ran at 3500 rpm for 20 minutes then 10 minnute at 1000 rpm. Engine went dead. No spark. Had to be towed in. I tried several times to start with no succsess. Came back 2 days later, engine started right up... Note; on my previous trip I noticed the tachometer dropped out,reading 0, for a minute or 2 then came back on without affecting performance while at 3500rpm.

Ken.I pesonally know very little on electronics but believe I have read in other posts that your symptoms could indicate regulator problems.Try using search function for regulator,rectifier.GOOD LUCK

I am working through a very similar problem. The best I can say is get the manual and a multi tester out and do the testing. I made the mistake of going on a guess my several people here and elsewhere and replaced the power pack for $100 and it wasn't it. It turns out that the timer base was the one that failed the tests. So....the manual and some testing could have save me some time and $$$$.
