intermittent power

Hi guys. Thanks for the help in the past. I still seem to be having intermittent power problems. I have a 94 115. Some times, it will pull an adult skier out of the water like nothing, other times it can hardly get a kid out of the water on 2skies. I am getting frustrated because there were issues with the fuel pump. That seemed to fix it at first, but then the problem returned. there was some evidence that the one cylinder was a little scoured from heat, even though the warning horn did not come on, and they were tested and they work. The compression is all between 105 and 115. All the wiring, power pack and stator have been tested and working fine. could it be a faulty fuel line? The vro has been taken off. It just seems as though sometimes it jumps out of the hole, and other times it just dogs. Help!

Re: intermittent power

had a 115 that did that, when were the carbs, last cleaned and rebuilt. are you using the original fuel hose? if so might be time for a new one, flaking on the inside fouling the carbs. have you checked for water in the fuel?

Re: intermittent power

does the engine shake when it's down on power or run smooth?

Pull your spark plugs and tell us what they look like.

Re: intermittent power

I had a similar issue when there was a small air leak in the fuel line. If you squeeze the primer bulb repeately it should eventually build pressure. If not, check for any fuel leak.

Re: intermittent power

I have a '76 115 Johnson that ran me ragged along these lines. I really wanted it to be something easy. I really didn't want to take those carbs down ALL the way. It was Jekyl and Hyde for weeks. Sometimes it ran like a champ, others like a goat. When I finally tore the carbs down, there in the elbow for the bottom carb fuel inlet was some fluffy looking stuff that was intermittently blocking the flow. I advise the following.

FIRST - Get a factory service manual.
TWO- Tear down those carbs, all the way. Clean them completely and reassemble with new gaskets and seals throughout.
THREE-Make sure all fuel lines are new and connected properly.

This will probably take care of the issues, if not, then my experience has been it's on to the powerpack and coils.

Good Luck!
