? interrupter switch alpha 1 gen 2

my boat just stopped shifting back to neutral when engine is running ...shifts fine when boat is not running .....when engine is running if i put the shifter back as close as it will go to neutral position and leave it there take my hand off shifter wait 5 or 10 seconds i hear a click and shifts in to neutral ? but not every time... i replaced my interrupter switch and have held the switch in and does not shut off engine there is and electronic control box on engine does this box have any thing to do with interrupter switch ..... or do i have a broken wire if it is the box any way to test it i have 2 elec. boxes on engine any clue what box it may be ..it is carburated not fuel injected

Hard to say what the box is that you are looking at. A picture would help, Even a year, engine type etc. would help.
There isn't any control boxes for the shift interrupt system.

it was repowered in 2000 5.7 mercruiser i looked at wireing digram and looks like for and older engine shift switch and looks like 1 wire goes to dist. and the other is a ground but not sure if the newer style is like the i heard from someone that the newer style shuts only a few cylinders down at a time ? witch would be computer related but i just don't know ..if i shut the ignition switch off for a split second comes right out of gear

I wouldn't listen to them anymore. Tbats old OMC info, nothing to do with Mercruiser.

You may just have a faulty shift interrupt switch, or something is broken or out of adjustment. Hard to say.
But there is no computer or black box controlling it.

i followed my shift switch wires back to a black box must be my problem
