Intex Mariner 4: 2013 Model vs 2008 Model

I have recently decided to purchase an Intex Mariner 4. The reviews make this the obvious choice for me. But now I see that there is a new 2013 model. The color on the grey hull has been changed from yellow to red and it seems there are now 4 Boston valves, instead of the original 2, presumably a plus.

Does anyone know of any other differences? Can anyone provide any guidance on this new model vs. the earlier one?

The new ones come with rectangular inflatable seats. The older ones had tubular seats. The tubular seats were supposed to make rowing a bit more difficult because the seat kept rolling under you. If you are going to use a motor and not row, this might not be a big difference for you.

Ssobol: Thanks for the info. I looked into the seats a bit and I think the tubular seats were the 2007 design, and they went to rectangular for the last design year, 2008. As you say, I can imagine the tubular seats being comfortable in general, but potentially really awkward if you need to row any distance. I do have an electric 30 lb thrust motor I am using with my current boat, and intend to move it to this one, but I'll still want seats that work using motor or oars. Thanks again.

Re: Intex Mariner 4: 2013 Model vs 2008 Model

I started this thread after thoroughly reviewing the IntexCorp.com/IntexStore.com website and not finding an answer. Rather than wait, I called the company minutes ago, inticated my intent to purchase and expressed my interest in knowing the what had changed with the 2013 model. The representative I spoke with was very friendly and advised me, after checking to be certain, that nothing had changed except for the color. I specifically asked about thickness or quality of the material and was told that nothing there had changed either. So it looks like 1. if color doesn't matter, go for the best price/shipper, and 2. the high quality reflected in reviews of the 2008 model should carry over to the 2013 model.

I found a great video on the changes of the mariner 4 here. Intex Mariner 4 Video

I love my Mariner 4, I put some swivel seats inside just like Rubberboats.com did. Way more comfortable to fish in.
