Craigslist ad has a 69 14 foot star craft for sale. Not sure of model. Will try to look over the boat tonight. Comes on trailer with 45 hp Chrysler outboard. That seems to big. Also needs throttle cables and steering?
I'm new here and have been lurking around for a while. Wanting to find a vintage smaller aluminum boat. From Kansas, grew up with dads 68 glastron ski boat. Looking forward to reading more here. Great site.

Pictures from craigslist ad.

If the price is right and the motor runs, that is a great looking boat...even if you had to replace the wood in the transom, reseal the hull and add the steering, etc...
Good luck and let us know what you find out...

Re: Introduction and possible star craft purchase.

Looks like a nice little fishing rig. Should be an easy project and a good candidate to fix up depending on the price.

You could certainly do remote/steering in that boat, but it is going to take up a lot of room and add some expense (and clutter running the steering line, throttle cables, and wiring harness along the side of the boat with no gunwale to hide it in). I think that boat would be a perfect tiller candidate. Buy the boat and trailer, sell off the chrysler (which may be overpowered anyway) and invest in a tiller.

Also, I'd check out the bottom of the boat on the port side where it is resting on the bunk in picture no. 1 up there. I can't tell if that's a big dent (compression) in the hull from that pinch point on the bunk or if the picture is just fooling my eye.

It always cracks me up that people make zero effort to make their stuff presentable before selling it. The guy could have at least stacked the lifejackets, turn the cooler right side up, removed the beer can, put the engine muffs in the shop, etc..

Forgot to mention the gal selling said her dad replaced the transom and sealed the bottom. I noticed the bend in the side. Wondered if it was just an optical illusions. She wants $600 I'm getting ready to go look.
I could get a tiller for the chrysler. But you are right. That's too big.

That hull has had the flotation removed! If it takes on water - it is going to sink like a stone. The Starcraft have large flotation foam chunks under every seat and there is sheet metal that protects the flotation.

Here is a picture of my old 14 foot 1963 starcraft before I restored it and you can see the flotation boxes. Make certain the wood the owner used to replace/repair is NOT pressure treated either.

Super Star, SeaFarer and Sea Scamp are in the '69 line-up and all-3 have only a 20Hp rating. If it's a Mariner-V, it has a 40Hp capacity. It does look to have some pretty hefty knee braces.

The hull pictured in the original post only has a 20 HP rating.

Re: Introduction and possible star craft purchase.

Checked the boat out this evening. I'll post more pictures.

Both sides look straight.

Small crease in the port side.

Throttle control still attached. This is a bonus. Though I won't use this motor.

Brackets for seats have been moved, redrilled. Probably no big deal to fix.

Extra brace added up front? Also visible wires for ignition.

Floor looks OK.

Transom and front of engine.

What year? No model number visible

Re: Introduction and possible star craft purchase.

Besides what you might see in the boat that I do not. Assuming the chrysler outboard is bad, what is one worth to rebuild? Anything? I could see using this with oars on some local no motor lakes. Also with a 15 to 20 horse to use on other lakes. I would be starting a restore, why I posted in this area. The floatation under the seats and repaint at a minimum. May just end up passing on this one. Have really just recently started looking for a small boat like this. Would also consider a larger aluminum cabin cruiser. Really stuck on a Star craft or Lone star. Might take a while to find another here on the prairie.

Thanks and again, great forum here.

IDK, to me it looks like it's been hacked together , rode hard and then put away wet. I personally wouldn't touch it.

Re: Introduction and possible star craft purchase.

Really depends what the asking price is, I would assume the power plant is toast, but you didn't say. Also looks like it's unsafe because of over power and no flotation. Heck for the right price, it may be a fun project, but I would be offering no more than $200.00. It looks like a decent platform to build a nice little fishing boat. Throw a floor in, re-power and paint her up. Tin boats are the best when it comes to second lives.

Big job, small tinny, no motor. I would probably pass unless the price comes WAY down.
