Hi, I'm a new(er) member and a lifetime boater. I figure it's about time I introduced myself. I live on a bay off of Lake Ontario and last year I bought the boat I have been thinking about for some time, a Boston Whaler, Dauntless 15 with a 50 Honda. I am very happy with it but due to an out of country work assignment, my boating season was very short. I love to tinker with my toys and I'm itching to get the boat set up properly. I used to build and modify engines as a hobby. Motorcycles, snowmobiles, outboards, cars (4, 6 and V8) and even a diesel tractor once. I still do like to tune and maintain, but I stick to OEM setups these days.
I've been reading the forums with interest and enjoying the discussion at Iboats for the past year. They say your memory fades as you age and it must be true. I do recall that I used to know everything. :) Now I read the forums and find find so much new information. I guess I must have forgotten all those things.
Mostly I read the prop forum and dream of the time when I can collect the data required for the gurus to advise me on an SS prop. Not being able to do this is driving me crazy, hence this thread. :)
This year low water is foiling me and my tinkering is on hold until I get my boat lift repositioned.
My 2010 tinker list:
1) Raise the motor to get the anti-vent plate above the keel. Done! I raised it two holes, all the way to the top. The anti vent plate is now 5/8 above the keel. I did collect data on GPS speed and RPM but I want to re-do this with an "average" load and average conditions, after I do #2 on this list.
2) Check carb setup and balance. I hope to do this later this week, once I build a simple manometer for my triple.
3) Submit GPS and RPM data and then buy an SS prop.
Oh yeah, I guess I should also install the bimini that my wife bought here last fall. I tend to put cosmetic changes low on my list. :)
Well I better go out now and see what I can do with that lift.

Re: Introduction

Thanks guys.
kenmyfam, you want a hint on which bay? Well my location is "The County" which is the local name for Prince Edward County. From where you are coming from we would be the first bay IN the county. So I guess that's actually two hints. Where do you launch in Lake Ontario?
