Inverter + Battery

Hi Everyone;

We have a 1800W inverter that, although barely, runs our electric stove.

I find that if the main battery is not 100% charged (Nautilus Group 31 pure lead AGM deep cycle) even with the engines running, she cannot handle the stove. (if not fully charged) The other batteries are starting batteries.

I do have 2 engines with stators and an additional marine alternator wired directly to the deep cycle battery.

If running the stove for a bit with fully charged batteries, it would be nice to extend how long the stove can run.

I realize that power generation on the engines is key however tricky to change.

Can anyone recommend what battery specs I should be looking for to best-extend the ability to run the stove? I assume deep cycle - but any recommended specs would be appreciated.

You may want to double up on your battery that is a large inverter. You will draw will soon cause a voltage drop which will require even more juice. By doubbling up you may even have more than twice the run time. As the batteries are not working. As hard. A gel battery has a longer run time than agm, but takes longer to charge. I recommend using a agm because that is what you already have. You could go lithium ion, but they are too costly.

If you have room for a 21"L X 8.25"W X 10.38"H battery, an SRM-4D would increase your reserve capacity from 190 to 390.

Running a stove on an inverter is kinda silly. They should only be run while on shore power or use a stove that uses some sort of fuel.

1800W is going to draw 150A even with the engines running. If the engines aren't running, it will be even more since the input voltage is lower.

The best batteries to get are Trojan golf cart batteries.

you need more battery reserve than a single group 31. either get a pair of 4D, or golf cart batteries, or a bank of 4 group 31 batteries if you want to pull 1800 watts or more. you need more reserve capacity to use an inverter or a stove that runs on propane,

Ayuh,..... Ya probably need a bigger inverter to go with the more bigger batteries,.....

A stove coil probably pulls 1500 watts or more, all by itself,...

More batteries are required. Even if you can run that big an inverter and load off that one little battery it's going to die an early death. You're being very hard on that battery. You really need at least 4 times that much battery capacity if you want your battery's to have much service life at all.
What size wire is going from the battery to the inverter? I hope it's at least 2/0 but larger would be better. Make sure you have a 200 amp fuse or breaker in that wire.
