Ipod To Computer Transfer

Our laptop was invaded and the hard drive had to be wiped. My son's Ipod is full and no backup. If I understand it right the ipod will not transfer back to the computer.

I found another post that talked about Anapod explorer. Do I understand right that this program will transfer the songs back into a computer? Is there a better program?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Ipod To Computer Transfer

It will transfer back fine

The issue comes from the song licenses

If The Ipod is fine will not be a problem as the Licenses will be on the unit

That is why you have a user name and password if you buy music and with fairplay you can have your stuff on 5 computers anyway

Its when you lose the computer and the Ipod at the same time your screwed :D

I am not sure if licenses will be an issue (never has been for me), but I use a tool call Idump. I use it to back up my ipod to my computer every so often. It puts the music on in a mp3 or mp4 format, not the cryptic format used by Ipod. You can also do much of the same things you can do with Itunes I think. It is free. It can be slow if you have lots of music (I have 30Gb+), and sometimes it is finickly (takes a couple tries) but I have been real happy with it. Is Anapod usable in windows? I thought it was a Linux tool.

Sorry about your troubles. Excuse me while I rant for a bit..

This precicely why I wouldn't choose an iPod. Most every other mp3 player out there just shows up as a hard drive on your computer. You copy files to and from it like any other hard drive. You can use the software that came with it, choose your own, or just use Windows Explorer/My Computer. You have a lot more freedom with the device and save a lot of money buying a non iPod player.

The ipod is not the problem, iTunes is.

i386 Rant all you want, I was madder then a hornet when I found out that iTunes would not work with all the songs he had in a differant program. However it was his money and he wanted the iPod.

The lincenses will not be a problem, all his songs are from CD's. He just hates to have to load all of them again.

Thanks for all the help.

I don't have the lic. agreement in front of me but I've heard that you can transfer your ipods' songs to up to 5 computers.
