Thought I would ask.

Recently switched to drilled well at the cottage.

Water leaves iron stains and is rather sulphury.

I run it through a 5 micron filter then a carbon filter then a UV filter.

Water is safe to drink.

Anything I can do about smell and iron.

I Don't have room for a water softner.

I'm in Canada and the heated room for pumps/pressure tanks/filter does not have room for a softner.

For our southerly friends, this is at my cottage. I only heat a small room and drain plumbing at end of weekend.

Only takes 5 minutes to leave property drained.

Tx.

Joe

Live with it Steam_mill. In the first place, there are no simple 'one size fits all' solutions for your water problems. You are dealing with dissolved gases (Hydrogen sulphide) and dissolved solids (iron). Depending on the levels, of each, it would take two different processes to deal with them. Both require space and moolah and would not be suitable for periodic usage. Don't let anyone sell you any snake oil.

Re: Iron and Sulphur in water

I have a 16 by 24 cabin. Hope yours is bigger.
A shallow well is softer water here in Minn. but a well into the aquafier is hard. I do not have the sulphur smell(thank God, but I have been around it in South Dakota)
The well I have is 50' deep but is harder than you know what. I use a dual filter of carbon and carbon. I then use a filter on the end points of the water(sink, shower, etc. )
Like I said, if you have sulphur then good luck.
