We are all feeling the gas price crunch..........

Isn't it ironic that most of the people on this board are involved in one of the least fuel efficient hobbies............ Boating! Talk about MPG!

Yeah, tell me about it. My 69 Merc 1250 gets about 2-3 miles to the gallon. What I do is plan my trips and limit my usage. I have only been out twice this year so far. Last year I was out every weekend starting in late March.

I was mowing the lawn today on my riding mower and started thinking about maybe stopping that as well. I burn about a gallon on the rider, but I get it done in 20 minutes. I burn a quarter gallon with the walk-behind, but it takes me closer to two hours. I am thinking that my time has enough value to offset the cost of using the rider. For now....

Re: Ironic

It's the one big thing I afford myself. Some spend their money on the perfect yard, the perfect house, the perfect car, the perfect rif. And that is cool. I just want a couple "perfect" days a year. Gas is part of the expense I have in owning a boat, but not the only. Figured that the extra couple of hundred bucks a year I'll have to shell out is what some spend on the "perfect" meal.

Re: Ironic

The average person probably spends more money going out to dinner in a year than buying gas for their boat.

Just go out to dinner less!!!

Re: Ironic

A few gallons of gas gets me and my 15 footer and 70 hp for a day out fishing and back. The fewer miles neccessary for many small boating trips makes up for the expended fuel per mile.At least in my case.
