Is 93-95 lbs of compression good?

My 70hp Yamaha engine was stolen off of my boat a month or two ago and I've been trying to find a decent used one to replace it. A guy on craigslist says he has a 1989 Evinrude 100 for sale that has recently been rebuilt. Says there's 93-95 lbs compression on all four cylinders. Is this any good? He wants $850 for it with the controls.

Let me know what y'all think.

Thanks

compression is decent, it is within 10% $850 with controls is OK price, as the Controls with harness and cables can be $200. see the compression and spark check for your self. don't take his word for it.

BUYING A USED MOTOR

overall condition, condition of the place you are buying it from, usually tells you how they care for things. compression 100 + psi, and within 10% of each other, good strong blue spark, no water in the lower unit oil. look for discolored paint, (sign of over heat at
one time, also scarred up bolts, as why. have them start it. if they fail to put it in a barrell or tank, or on muffs, or in the water, to start it they don't know what they are doing. best yet is to take it for a 30 min to 1 hour test run. also if remote controlled motor, the controls should come with it.

they stole the motor off the back of the boat?
How did they do it?
that would be very hard to do without getting caught.

Way easier than you might think. And happens more often than you think.

not unless u got a big v8 outboard on the back. thats pretty hard to steal dont u think?

thats kinda weird to have a motor just rebuilt and be below 100psi:confused:

big question y did he have it rebuilt make sure he corrected the problem

You have to undo 4 bolts and the conrols and then winch the motor onto a truck to steal it.

It would be easier to steal the boat, just hook up the saftey chains to the hitch or something.

is it true that all other things being equal...that a motor with 135psi of compression in all four cylinders would have more horsepower than a motor with 100PSI is all four cylinders?

I mean if you are buying a 100 hp outboard you dont want one thats only putting out 80 hp do ya?

no. just its better to have it higher well if its made to be cause u will have better starting and smoother idleing i believe.

u wont have really any difference unless its not made to run on 100psi again

it only takes bolt cutters, a ratchet and socket, and wrench. to take a motor off a boat. good ones are gone in 5 minutes or less. 70hp 2 good men can walk off with it.
