Is a '98 305 block compatible with an '82 305?

I have an 82 305 Mercruiser with a cracked block and an opportunity to acquire a 98 block. Does anyone know how compatible these are?

I believe they are OK, as long as you use the '82 heads and intake (they are matched for sure).
