Is a Lowrance Globalmap 4800M a worthwhile GPS ?

I got a freebee Lowrance Globalmap 4800M with a antenna and it lacks a LOWRANCE 99-98 power cable.
The cable must still be on the old boat it came off of. I can find one for about $40.00 and I bet that it is ready to go.
Looks to be in good shape. I have two other fishfinders so I would only be interested in using it for GPS purposes.
Is it worth buying a power cable for it or not?
I have a brand new Garmin 500c for depth and maybe finding fish so I am good there, but I think that this Lowrance Globalmap 4800M is capable of working as a fishfinder too.
I do have an SD card on it that has Eastern US apparently but I can't read it on my PC.
I also have an Eagle Fishmark 320 depthfinder that came off the same boat.
I ran it on demo mode in the house off my boat battery and it seems to work good.
Just need a transducer bracket for it or I could epoxy another transducer to the hull.
Both these units look pretty nice. Just wonder how well they work.
Any comments would be appreciated on the Globalmap or Eagle units.

Well, I ordered a cable anyway. I have the manual from a pdf file that appears to be a mile long. I will try to review this unit later on when I get a chance to try it out for anyone who may stumble upon this topic down the road.

Decent unit, just a bit dated as far as features go.

Equivalent to my Eagle 502c, except for the color screen.

Correct, you can't read those chips on a pc.

Thanks roscoe, I did get my cable in the mail yesterday and got my boat battery out of the closet and hooked it up in my living room. ( The wife loves this sort of stuff I do! LOL ) Thank gawd it worked. I was impressed with it especially with the depth of water bodies on the map. I have Eastern US and the info on it is good enough for me. The PDF file for a manual I downloaded using Google will help even though I was getting around on the menus pretty well anyway. There's plenty of ice and snow outside now so I will be not using it for a couple months. Having been using a handheld color etrex Garmin in a bracket on the dash in the past will make this look like watching TV.
