Is a tarp a good boat cover?

I am having a shed built for my pontoon. I want to put a cover over it to keep furry animals out of it during the winter. Today I went to Harbor Frieght and bought a large tarp with lots of adjustable tie downs. I can't use a boat cover because the hardtop I installed on it is much higher for a standard boat cover to fit.

My question is will the tarp work since it will be supported by the hardtop and tied as tight below the fence rail as can be, or will I have any problems using the tarp as a boat cover. I live in the midlands of SC so snow is not as much of an issue as humidity.

Any other suggestions, I am listening.

Thanks,
Wade

you also have a mildew problem, use some kitter abatment around and in the boat. they tarp is going to have to be able to breath, or you will get mildew. i use a tarp on mine, and PVC tent frame to support it. i have no problems here.
