I wanted to know if there was any problem using an auto battery with 725 cold cranking amps as compared to a marine battery with 650 cold cranking amps. Is there anything special about the marine batteries?

you didnt say what you were using it for.

If used to only start you motor, and perhaps a few electronics like a fish finder, It should be fine.

If you are using it for a trolling motor, You will shorten its lifespan ALLOT!

marine batteries are designed to deliver a lower amperage for a longer time, they are also constructed out of heavier plates inside.

Car batterys, otherwize known as cranking batteries are designed to give short bursts of HIgh amps. Both will work for either purpouse, However, Each is specificaly designed for its own job. Using the wrong battery style will cost you in the long run.

Like he said if you are planning on using it on a trolling motor it won't last long. My battery went dead one time and I used a car battery which only lasted about 3 hours and then it wouldn't hold a charge. Trolling motors are murder on a battery. If this is your purpose you are best off getting a good deep cycle battery.

Thanks guys, I am looking for the starting battery. I already have a deep cycle that I just bought for trolling a couple of weeks ago. So, no worries there. I think I will go ahead and buy the bigger auto battery from Wally World. At least the one that is near my house does not give me any problems when one goes bad. Thanks for the input. ;)

I'd buy a good marine battery (mid-range) from Sears. A DIEHARD. Then you will never have to worry about it. I run DIehard batteries in both boats and all my vehicles. I will never again buy a cheap battery. Save $15 pay 100 in aggravation.
