Hi

My o/b motor is an Evinrude 100hp. I installed a voltmeter to see the chargeing status. It doesn't have a high reading. It's about 12.5. Is it being charged? If not, where is my problem? I would guess it's the alternator. What do I do from there?

Thanks

A tricky question. It depends on what year it is.

Boat of Us,
Basically turn the key on and observe the voltage. Now start the motor, voltage should be a tad higher.Blip the throttle and see if the meter rises toward 13 volts or so.If it does,I would say the charging system works fine.

Most older outboards don't have a whole lot of charge power. And they don't really put out much at idle, and need 3/4 throttle to get going. Then you're lucky to see 9 to 12 amps.
DHP
