Is Blower speed control a thing?

So I'm replacing the dash and rocker switch panel on my Cabrio 280 with a new one from a Cabrio290, that SEEMS to be identical in size and configuration. This new rocker panel however, has a knob connected to a potentiometer that the existing panel doesn't have. It appears to be wired to the blower's rocker switch. Is it common to have a speed control knob on a blower? and when would you want to use it?

New to me a speed control on a blower. Guess it would be a nice idea when idling along. You could decrease the speed to keep air circulating and not hear the fan so much. That said, you would need to turn it up for startup, or let it run longer before startup

ayuh. And my jack-ass would certainly forget to turn the thing back up to 11 when firing up the 'ol 454, with my luck resulting in a a loud and abrupt "Kaboom"...

Never heard of a blower speed control. Looking at pics of 290 dash set ups, that pot was added by a PO for something - Maybe for dash or cockpit light dimming? No label and all the rest of the controls are nicely labeled. The blower switch was used as a convenient place to hook up and it seems all the wires are labeled except the pot wiring. It may be me, but the knob doesn't seem to match the rest of the controls.

Yar, turns out, upon closer inspection, the black was just a convenient place to terminate the ground, like you said. The blue wiper run routes into a harness that plugs into god knows what. Console back-light dimmer perhaps, dunno.

Thanks!

So now you have a hole to fill in a brand new looking dash. Darn!

i suspect it is a dimmer control for your gages. My '97 250 Sundancer has one. It is handy to have & I use/adjust it quite a bit.
