Is HD radio worth it?

I'm thinking about upgrading the stereo on my boat but want to keep the price resonable.
All I really want is an auxillary input for an MP3 player.

I now use a (seperate) FM satellite reciever and will continue to do so because I have a lifetime subscription (no monthly fee).

What do you think about HD radio- is it worth the extra cost?
Is the available HD content as good as satellite? Does it make sense to have both?

Looking for your opinions! I only know 1 person with a HD radio. He absolutely loves it, but doesn't have satellite radio.

I guess the real question is "Is it worth it to you?

Personally, I rarely listen to the radio any more. Broadcast, HD or satellite.
I like my music to be continuous, without any chatter at all. So I stick exclusively to my MP3 player.

My understanding is that HD radio stations are the same as your regular local stations, just broadcast at a higher band with for higher quality. They may also include some minor programming changes, but mostly the same old stuff.

This is how it was explained to me, I could be wrong.

all the HD stations are attached to your local radio stations. Many of them you can listen to on-line. Give them a listen and see if they are worth it to you.

If you have satellite, you already have better reception, and a broader range. You may however like the local feel of some of the HD channels.
(i.e. dedicated local weather/news)
