Hi,

I was wondering if when your boat is out of the water, is it best to store the motor trimmed down to the ground or have it upright with the tilt tabs locking the motor in place. Doing it one way or the other does it put a strain on he hydraulic tilt and trim. I have a 90HP yamaha tlr90 by the way.

Thanks!

probably in the down position so that all the water gets drained out

boat covered, motor, in down position is best, but you need to keep the bow high enough that any water drains out.

Thanks for the response guys! That is the way I've been storing the motor. I have read that if you do keep your motor in the water (especially salt water), you could store the motor upright and make sure the trim cylinders are recessed back into the tilt and trim to prevent build up.

Thanks again

Most outboard trim cylinders are mounted above the water line so I don't see that as being a big concern. Most in our marina tilt their motors up and out of the water to keep the build up off the lower unit.

Theres a couple of reasons to keep your running gear out of the water..especially in a marina..as stated, keep growth from lower unit..but as important is to slow electrolysis and corrosion of metal parts. there's alot of electrical current from faulty grounds etc.. in a marina basin. now the zincs help with this but to supplement anti corrosive zinc's , keeping the metal out of the water will greatly prolong the life of your zinc and everything connected to the motor......
