The lack of response may be due to the difficulty of the job, fortunately for you, nobody here gives anything but the best first hand knowledge of a job or situation ( minus legal issues)....or it just might be your breath:D:D:D:D

Re: Is it my BREATH

The problem maybe the metal flake aspect, it looks really good when new, but doesn't age well, and is really hard to repair without seeing the repair.

I am not a expert but a friend went through this years ago and later swore he would never buy anything metal flake again.

That being said, maybe someone will come back with some really good advice for you.

Pictures always make it more interesting and give the experts here in the forum more to go on.

If the pictures don't work, try Tick Tacks.

Ayuh,.......

Trailer it to a few Autobody Shops,+ get some estimates to Paint it.....

Because,.... As noted above,..... Just Spot repairing it is Out of the Question.....

Btw,....... Welcome Aboard,....
Post this question down the the Restoration forum,...
You'll get more responces than up here in the General Boating forum.....

Probably best posted in the restoration section vvvvvvvvv Gelcoat repair kits are cheap and plentiful. Depends on how much you have to do. Just do a search here, I am sure they're available. I've used for small repairs and they are reasonably forgiving . . .

Edit: My next thread was gonna be "Where's Bondo?" . . . and my simplicity comment had nothing to do with meta-flake

Boats with metal flake are laid down as follows : Base coat, metal flake and then top coat. Once the top coat ( or clear coat ) starts to wear then the next layer will be the metal flake. If your boat is at that stage just rub your hand over the exposed area - feels pretty rough, eh? You really can't sand that down to make it smooth again as you'll just be removing the flake material. It can be sanded down, don't get me wrong but you'll be doing as I just mentioned - removing the flake. It usually turns out all splotchy and stupid looking.
For a complete restore sand it ALL down to bare glass and start the entire process over again.
As Bond-o mentioned run it to a couple of auto body shops - get their opinion. Whatever you do stay away from any type of marina. Talk about gouging - ouch!!! You might get lucky and find a decent one but the chances are pretty slim.
Hate to discourage you but that is just the way it is. You have a boat, you're gonna' end up spending some money on it.
With the proper equipment the job is a piece o' cake - just need the right stuff. :D
