I have a new to us boat, a 1984 Wellcraft 180. 140 mercruiser IO, no hydraulic steering. When the boat is at idle or taking off I notice the steering wheel vibrating some. Feels like a car with warped rotors. Is this normal? My previous boat of 20 years a 1975 Searay had "True Course" steering which is a nice system if you ask me. No pulling to the left or right, to bad merc didn't use that set up.

don't seem right to me. my steerin wheel don't vibrate at all. i got nothin special at all. R&P steering. a mercruiser 1 drive with the big a** trim tab. i can let go of the helm at way above plane and not have it go anywhere other than where i point it......short of wind and wave action.....

does it vibrate more when ya turn it or when the drive is trimed up high? u-joint????

Thanks for the replies. Before going out a second time I installed a spare prop that came with the boat and adjusted the steering trim tad. Things are much better now. The other prop didn't appear bent but must have been and I guess it only shook in gear.
