Is it ok to change the battery terminal connector coming from the motor?

My leads that hook up to my battery for my Mercruiser 4.3 I/O currently have the post type connector. I would like to cut that off and change to 3/8" so it will fit onto a battery switch that I bought so I can switch between batteries. Is that ok to do? Thanks!

I guess I'm confused. The post connector on the battery doesn't need changed. You cut the cable and add the lugs to connect to the switch, but the post connector stays on the battery end.

You are going to either cut the current cable to add the switch in the middle and will need to add a connector the bot end of the cut...
Or you will need to add an additional cable to reach the switch. You will still need the cable connector that fits the battery.

But in general, Yes! You can cut off connectors and change them.
Just because it has a 3/8 hole in it doesn't mean it is the correct connector.
The pack of 6 connector for $2 from Home Depot are probably recommended.
Be sure you get a Connector rated for the hundreds of amps the battery delivers to start the engine. They look something like THIS.
