Is it out there?

I may be looking for the non-existant, but here goes. I am looking for a Deep v aluminum hull fish/ski style boat. I am looking for an inboard/outboard with at least a 4.3. Can anyone point me in the general direction of make/model? I am probably not going to be able to afford a new one, so one that is 2-6 years old will be fine. Is there anything out there that fits this?
I would like to ask one favor, please don't hy-jack this with a " Why do you want that?". This is what I want, good, bad or indifferent.
There are some of you out there that have forgotten more that I have seen. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Is it out there?

I'm sure it does exist but I/O's on aluminum hulls are FAR less common than outboards and becoming even less so. Starcraft and Sylvan made quite a few aluminum boats with I/O's but they almost always put 4 cylinders in them for some reason.

I really want to ask why you want an I/O but you won't let me so I won't

Piper, I live in a resort/vacation area and we are getting our usual visitors from out of town. I see lots of aluminum boats and have noticed that many of them come from the northern parts of the country. You might scour CL in northern areas to find what you're looking for. BTW, do us a favor and complete your profile as it helps us know more about you and your location. Good Luck!

Yah, your combo is a little rare there. I believe I have seen a few metal hulls with the 4.3 in Lund boats. Maybe. I know some of the late model cabin style boats from Sylvan/Starcraft/Lund had 4.3's in em.

For an alum fish n ski type boat you'll likely be finding a bunch of 4 cylinder boats and a whole ton of outboards.

He wants an IO cuz they are so awesome.

I forgot about Lund's. I've definitely seen 4.3's in Lunds.

There's just no accounting for some people's tastes.

Re: Is it out there?

Just after I posted this I did find a Lund Tyee with a 4.3. It was a 90's model. I'll keep looking.
Not to be argumentative, but my profile is as complete as it is going to be. My location has absolutely no bearing on what manufacturer made what model. In this day and time I feel a little cautious about disclosing personal information on a public site. I respect the rules of the forum, and intend on abiding by only the required information.
This forum has been very helpful in the past. There are some folks that have been wonderful at answering questions. If the rules change and there is more information required than I am comfortable sharing, then I will respectfully remove my membership.
I guess this is truly a needle in the haystack

If you live in the North part of the US you have a decent chance.
If you live in the South part of the US you have a much smaller chance.

LOL @ being afraid of the internet.

I can sure respect a fella who wants to keep his private info private. But here's the thing...

My location has absolutely no bearing on what manufacturer made what model.

Certain parts of the country have loads of certain kinds of boats while other parts of the country have none at all. It's just a geographic thing.

Richard up there was just looking to help ya out by getting an idea of your whereabouts is all. Shoot, you might be his neighbor and he has one for sale in his front yard?

Or, you might live in the Sudan where we'll tell you "Give it up man, you'll never find one."

Just trying to help ya is all, have a good one:)

OB's give me indigestion.

Re: Is it out there?

Do you actually intend to use it for tubing and skiing or will it mainly be a fishing boat? The reason i ask is that an outboard can be a better choice for fishing and all around general ease of maintenance. We're seeing a lot of the up scale fishing boats being sold with outboards vs. inboards with the exception of the jets and the jets which were once very popular are becomming less and less popular because of fuel costs and quite simply, the lack of need. Considering an outboard would definitely broaden your choices.

Re: Is it out there?

I am in a situation where I can go to Portland OR, or Miami FL. to pickup a boat. The location is not a factor at all. I just wanted to know what make to look for. It does seem as though Lund may be a choice. Can anyone recall any other makes that may have what I am looking for?

Re: Is it out there?

If you can include the midwest in that range than you'll be in better shape. Lots of alum hulls here = more opportunity. Starcraft and Sylvan both make alum boats with 4.3 in em, but like I said, mostly cabin style.

Have fun:)

It's common for people to dislike and fear what they know nothing about. :p :p ;) :D

There are several manufacturers that make larger aluminum boats. When I lived in Alaska, many of the IO boats were aluminum. I can't really think of the names of them right now, except one, that's Almar. We had a bunch of those.

Re: Is it out there?

Since you said you can pick up a boat in Portland, there are several builders that will make what you want located in that part of the country.

Boulton
Northriver
Wooldridge
Duckworth

Just to name a few.

Re: Is it out there?

I will look at those also. My geographical references were to the point that the location of the boat is not important. I can go anywhere the right boat is.
I am not in a position to have one built. Like I originally said, probably a used boat a few years old. I was not really aware that this is an uncommon combination. I will continue the hunt with this new info---
Thanks again--

Re: Is it out there?

Like jasoutside said, lots of aluminum hulls around the great lakes and midwest. Get on SearchTempest or another craigslist search engine and you'll find tons of aluminum hull rigs around there.

Re: Is it out there?

RotaryRacer,
Everyone of those fits what I want ALMOST. Twice now during the thread, I specified 2-6 years old. I have never been fortunate enough to be in a position that I can own a newer boat, but I cannot buy new. I am not looking for anything older than 5 or 6 years. If thoes you listed were in that year range, I would be very interested.
Thanks for the effort,
Steve

Re: Is it out there?

Just a heads up piper...

Age means absolutely nothing with these alum boats (and glass for that matter). What the owner did to care for the boat means everything. Seriously.

Happy hunting:)

Re: Is it out there?

The aluminum boat manufacturers have been going away from I/O's for some reason in recent years.
