my 1951 3.3hp Evinrude Sportwin mdl 4423 will start and run for a few minutes then it will die and won't start up for a good half hour. It gets really hot and I think it might be overheating. Is there anyway I can stop this problem from happening and make my engine run properly?

No tell telltale hole on that one.

Can you touch your fingers to the cylinder head while it is running. If not, it's hot.

I'l bet that old girl needs a water pump service.

No. Your engine did not have a tell tale. OMC didn't start adding them until the late 70's.

Feel the head. If you cannot hold your fingers on it for a couple of seconds, it's hot.

The answer is to put a new water pump in if it's getting that hot.. Don't continue to run it this way, even for short periods, until you get it fixed..

Try these guys for a pump.

www.twincityoutboard.com

The water pump is located at the top of the lower unit where it bolts to the exhaust tower.

You need a manual-bad. They're about $30.00

See the bottom of this page.
