sounds like he wants to convert an inboard to an outboard. Probably an inboard/outboard, not a true inboard. Previous discussions say it's a major project seldom worth it.

In Thailand they have swiveling inboard car motors running long shafted props. Sailboats have inboard wells that support outboard motors.

My god... the first one... The horror.

The first one is factory, very purpose-built boat. No comment on the 2nd one :) not sure what the rest of it looks like.

My guess would be marine research. :)

It might be for some special application where it needs to pivot the bow around while the stern is almost stationary. Although I can't think of an application like that at the moment.

Or maybe they just need the stern clear of everything, above and below the waterline.

Seems like it would drive like a car, with the back following the front around the corners.

Having the O/B up front like that allows you to run it while tending to things in the rear that you don't want chopped up -- be it people or creatures of the sea, etc.

Necessity is the mother of invention. When that was invented, try to imagine the necessity.

EDIT: Imaging running the O/B up front while pulling in nets/pots/whatever from the stern -- Just an example.

Whatever the neccessity, I don't want to be the one up on the very bow driving the damn thing in any sort of rough water :D

Supposedly the handling is amazing and the boat is always on plane...from the first second you throttle up, it's level and fast. Shallow water running is easily, especially if mounted on a jackplate.

The Go-devil is the American equivalent. I saw those boats when I was in Thailand, some are really crazy with 15' shafts pushing a 30' canoe.

As for putting an OB in a well inside the boat, the guys who fish and run nets off the beach do that; they can drive all over the flats and through the surf.

The second pic I had posted is in a sail boat. The rudder does the steering so the motor stays fix, kind of replaces an inboard I guess.

ok funny with all your coment but i was talking about removing the original motor glassing up the drive hole and reenforcing the transom thinks like that of the nature. but funny thought you guys have.

Re: is it possible how to make a inboard to a mount a outboard motor

If you are talking about removing an inboard/outboard motor and drive........ it has been done but it costs quite a bit of money and usually has VERY POOR results. It changes the entire center of gravity of the hull. The transom can be converted but BIG BUCKS or a mount can be placed on the transom for a motor .......... once again very big bucks....... then there is the cost of the outboard sufficient to power the boat.

It is cheaper to find a donor boat that currently has a good IO and make a transplant......... but once again allot of work and dollars.

Reinforcing the transom also requires that the stringers be changed and braces are added. It is absolutely not easy for the experienced builder and worse for the novice.

Could you not glass over the keyhole , gelcoat it to match.
mount a jackplate across the hole , bolt it to the transom and then mount you motor off that?

maybe the strength might not be there ,if not, then redo the transom plywood to cover the whole of the transom , then do the steps above???
