Is it possible to break a prop and not realize it?

About a two inch chunk out of the prop as you can see in picture and slightly bent not noticeable in picture. Is it possible to cause this damage and not realize it? I have not had the boat is shallow water it has been in a slip the entire time since the prop was installed....it is a repaired prop from the previous owner.....could the repair have broken?

Ayuh,... They're both been used, 'n drug through sand or other bottom material....

Personally, I've known it, every time I've ever hit bottom...
