i have a long shaft johnson, 97 15 hp manual start. was going to use it on a boat, but have decided the paperwork mess isnt worth my time.
so, the trade offer,
2010 merc 8 hp short. ELECTRIC START. im getting older and thinking electric start is nice.
i added up the cost to convert my motor, and its about 300 for the drive shaft, and linkage.

2010 8hp is a Tohatsu. When it comes to most small outboards these days, the 4 strokes are Tohatsu's so it's a matter of taking your pick of color and who you want to service it, and lastly what you want to pay

To each his own. Get what you feel comfortable with. I've heard the Tohatsu is a pretty good motor. I think that's who is building the small ones for BRP.

straight trade. the owner of the merc/tohatsu wants to match his main motor which is a BIG johnson.

I'v had a few of the tohatsu motors to tinker on, and they do seem like nice kickers. I even had one of the small evinrude made in china single cylinder 2 strokes 3.3 hp and was very impressed at how well it ran. Electric start & it will charge your battery, sounds like a ok trade as long as it was treated well and not abused. good luck!
