I have a 1980 Johnson 55, and the water coming out of the pee hole is only like warm. This is after the engine has warmed up.

Should the water be cool? And if not, what might be the problem?

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve....How are things in the mother land? The Colonies are doing well. Now to the question.

Luke warm is about good as it's going to get since the water is almost directly from the water pump. Just be concerned with a good stream from the pee hole and the temp on the flat area in back of the head.

Warm water coming out is ok.Take off the cover and place your hand around each head. Are they the same???are they hot????are they warm???They should be the same temp and only warm. Not burning hot.Installing a gage is cheap and easy and well worth it.Charlie

Telltale water on that engine should be as you describe.Warm.If you can rest your hand on the head cover for several seconds after engine is warmed up without getting burned ,it is likely running fine as well. However, the t/stat on your engine should be replaced at least every other year. This will prevent it from becoming sticky and causing you some real problems down the road.
