I am currently trying to sell my boat. It is a 1989 Sunbird Eurosport with an OMC 5.7L engine. Today I went to show the boat to someone and when I started the engine it started blowing water/oil mixed toegether out through the breather hoses that come up from the valve covers. What the heck should I do now. The boat is worth like 7000.00 with the trailer and I was already selling it for 4250.00. I just wanted to get sell it, not make any money off of it. Any suggestions.

well, i did a serarch & i see that u have had problems with this engine, such as water in the oil etc., etc., etc. for quite some time now. now i know why u want to unload it for $4250.00 on some poor unsuspecting sucker, as apparently u haven't solved anything. u bragged about the boat in one of you're posts, now u want to get rid of it. how come? i'm not trying to be a jerk, but some poor soul that wants to get a boat so he can enjoy it with his family is gonna get burned. that sucks. u can yell & scream at my post if u want. i don't care. but if i'm wrong i'll apologise. let's see what others have to say.

Re: Is my engine toast?

Yeah I have had problems before, but I also have advertised that the boat needs work. I am telling people about what has happened, so I am not trying to screw anyone over. The reason I am trying to sell it is that I am in the military and I will be getting medically discharged, that is the only reason otherwise I would keep it and take care of it my self. The only thing I don't like about your post is you acusing me of these things BEFORE you ask. Like I said I am telling people that it needs work and letting them know what has been the problem, that is why I am selling it so cheap, It just never got this crazy before with the engine.

The boat 21 feet long.

Re: Is my engine toast?

did u ever have the manifolds tested? i had the same problem yoi're having a couple yrs. ago. i replaced the manifold/riser. problem solved. they ain't cheap though. if u run in salt, i bet they're shot. if u do run in salt, or the previous owner did they're only good for 4-5 yrs. anyway.

No problem, I looked back at it from your point of view and I can see were you would think what you did.

As far as the manifolds and risers go, there is noone here that tests them. If they are shot, how would that cause water to come up through the valve covers like that(throught the breather hoses)? The only crappy parts is I don't want to spend the money on them and find out that it is something else.

Re: Is my engine toast?

I just got the exact value of the boat. For retail the boat is $6788 and change. With the problems I am having with the engine is $3000.00 a reasonable price. I have found engines for about $1600 for a long block replacement. Should I post this somewere else?

14 yrs old, bad history with motor, only 21 ft long. I myself am a sucker, I buy boats with out much consideration and always pay more than they are worth, in your case if ht e interoir of the boat is immaculate, you a nice persuasive guy I might spend 3000 at most, but more than likely figure in the cost of TT&L, engine rebuild, traveling expenses, I would be willing to pay 1500 cash money right now.

Sorry I just can't see selling it that cheap. I know that it needs some engine work, but it is still a good hull, trailer, and all around boat.
