ok 83 johnson 35 hp new water pump last summer the water is spitting out ok just seems really hot almost to hot to hold my hand under it, is this too hot??
If you cant hold your hand to your heads for a good couple seconds, its likely too hot. What range does it seem to heat up, idle, higher?? When were the thermostats last changed? Is there still a steady strong stream?
I hold my hand where the water comes out and the water seems really hot. I didn't check the head cause I was using the boat at the time. I was in the water riding. I've had the motor for at least six years, I haven't done it, may be the original thermostat. The one single stream of water that shoots out the side comes out really strong. Seems to be working fine.
ok put in new thermostat today will start her up tomorrow , getting late already yes it had a nice steady stream of water shooting out the right side hole but the 2 holes in the back i think the water was a little slow coming out i know it was almost to hot to hold my hand under it. i was using the boat at the time i was checking this out so i couldnt take the top off, als o i think this was the original thermostat it still had perfect paint on the bolts and the gasket.
If you have had the engine for 6 years and haven't replaced the water pump impeller, you probably ought to do this too. Sorry, I misread your post. You did it last year.
